Week 1

In a similar memoir fashion, I can't remember the first time I learned to read. I believe it happened around the kindegarten age but I can't tell you my first book. I enjoy reading, and find it a rewarding hobby to help me fall asleep. When I read fiction, I tend not to read as deep into the subtext and mostly analyze news and current events. Unlike our author of A History... I rarely read a book more than once. I'm not sure if I spend more time reading digital or paper, but it's close.

You bring up an interesting point about how much people read from digital sources versus actual print sources. I personally read from digital sources much more. In the first chapter Manguel talks about how the specific copy of a book that one reads can make a significant difference in the message it sends. When we read from digital sources there is no longer an actual book or piece of paper that we are reading from so the effect that Manguel describes may not occur.
